EAST ROCKHILL TWP., Pa. – Lawmakers say a quarry full of asbestos in upper Bucks County must be shut down for good, and more than a hundred people who live nearby joined them at a rally Friday in a show of support.
After almost three years, the residents of East Rockhill Township are still fighting to stop work at Rockhill Quarry.
The Rockhill Quarry sat dormant for almost four decades until 2018, when R. E. Pierson was awarded a $224 million contract to expand the Pennsylvania Turnpike. They lease the quarry from Hanson Aggregates.
However that same year, the DEP discovered asbestos at the site.
